課程概述 |
The course discusses the economic analysis of leisure consumption decisions and the economic issues in the leisure industry. The course will first apply the concepts and tools of microeconomics to analyze how a consumer make time allocation decision on the choice among leisure, consumption, school and work, and how a leisure business manages its supply, demand, investment, and market interactions. The second part of the course will cover the macroeconomic issues of leisure, including the impacts of leisure industry on nation’s production, income, employment, economic development and international finance and trade. Through case studies and examples, it is expected for students to gain extensive understanding on the economic issues in Taiwan’s and global leisure markets, and to learn how to apply economics to the operations and management in the leisure industry. The course shall provide a great foundation for students to advance in their future study and career development in the leisure business. |
課程目標 |
The course will discuss the following topics: 1) the economic issues in the leisure industry, 2) the influence of international leisure industry, 3) the analysis of the production, consumption, market equilibrium and invest risk of leisure industry using the concepts and tools of microeconomics, 4) the macroeconomic impacts of leisure industry on gross national production, economics development, employment and balance of international account, 5) the applications of economics in the leisure industry by case study, 6) connecting the theory and practice by recognize the related developing issue of Taiwan’s and global leisure markets. Examples of case studies for the course include
Organic tea leisure farms
Service business in leisure
Food and leisure: Taiwan’s night markets
Sports and associated leisure markets |
課程要求 |
The course will contain two exams - Midterm and Final. The exams will not be cumulative, and will have multiple choice questions and assay problems requiring detailed solutions. Practice exams will be available on the class website for you to prepare and acquaint yourself with the format of the exams. Each exam is worth 35% of the total grade.
Three take-home assignments will be given throughout of the semester. Students need to team up to form a study group to do and submit their work together. A team should have 2~3 (at least 2 but no more than 3) students, and your grade will be given the same for a team. The grade for those take-home assignments is worth 30% combined out of the total grade. |
